Lesson Time: 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM Friday July 24, 2009
Today’s big task was to do spins, I have to admit, I was a bit nervous!
After finishing my long busy day and no lunch, I arrived at the airport with a headache which was the last thing I wanted. Anyway, I thought to myself....no point being a chicken .....I will deal with it, I can handle anything!( ....yea right!).
I will cut the long story short, started the lesson with circuits and practiced more landings and takeoffs. once landing was better than before and other worst....
After completing the circuit practice, we headed towards the north west for spins. Dave did the HALT check (Height - Area- Landing checks - Traffic) and started demonstrated the spin (power to idle, pitching the nose all the way up and applied the left rudder. The plane banked and it felt like that the plane went up side down and then recovered). I thought ….this wasn’t too bad but ...wait... then few moments later I was told that it was not spin becuase the plane could not enter into a spin and we will try again. My instructor tries again and this time we started downward descend while spinning. I could see, ground moving around me and plane were descending fast...my eye were almost popping out and headache felt even worst. Dave stopped the spin and started leveling off to recover. The G forced got me as he pulled the plane to level off; once leveled… He looks at me a says.....how are you feeling...
I thought to myself, I can't do it, I was feeling nauseous and my a headache was much worst. I looked at him and said..., sorry I don’t think that I can do this today, can we do this the next time....
Yes!.....I chickened-out!
He nodded and replied no problem and we headed towards the airport. After 4-5 minutes once I gain my strength back, I took over the controls. I performed the landing which did not go smooth at all but no major screw-up and we landed safely.
Lesson Learned: Don’t push it, if you had a rough day.... don’t push it, don't try slips
