Private Pilot

Precautionary landing procedure may be followed in a number of scenarios:

- Unknown Aerodrome
- Unsure if Aerodrome is safe since you last landed (i.e snow, etc)
- Weather is getting worst and you must land
- Passenger Medical emergency
- etc.

If time permits, it is recommended that you do 2 passes over the intended landing site, High pass, Low and final landing.

60 Knots/Hr ~ 1 Knots/Second ~100 ft

20 Seconds = 2000 ft

Procedure:

1. Select a field and your touch down point (into the wind if possible)
2. Slow down, I would suggest 70KIAS (10 degrees flap) for your 1st pass
3. Call Flight Service/ATC/Flight Information, communicate your position and intentions. Make a pam pam call if needed (121.5)  
4. Brief the passenger(s). 
5. Overfly the field @1000 AGL @ 70 kias 
7.Plan a low pass @500 AGL at 60 kias with 20 degree flaps. Inspect the surface.
8. Climb again to 1000 AGL and prepare for landing, landing checks, briefing.
9. Perform a short or soft field landing.

If field is very rough,  unlatch doors before touchdown. magnetos off, master switch off.
